A group of South Florida women came together to build something amazing for those in need.
Dozens of women, donned in pink, took part in Habitat for Humanity of Broward County’s Women Build, Saturday. The women helped build several homes in the Fort Lauderdale area.
The annual event empowers women to make a difference in the community by building the homes for low-income families. “This is our 8th women’s build and every year it gets more and more exciting, it really does,” said Nancy Daly of Habitat for Humanity. “Many of our homeowners are single women and to have an opportunity for women to feel empowered to come out and to help build and provide a home for another female who is head of her household, it’s a wonderful opportunity, it’s a very good feeling.”
Among those hard at work- Katina Taylor, wife of former Miami Dolphin Jason Taylor, volunteered her time to build the homes for families in need. “I’m working actually on Katina Taylor’s home and again my name is Katina Taylor so it’s cool that I’m helping someone with a very unique name and a special person,” said Taylor. “To be asked to be a part of the Women’s Build of Broward is just so wonderful. To get here and try to help someone else and spend a few hours of our day to change someone’s life forever, it’s amazing.”
Auto Nation, Marti Huizenga and the Seminole Hardrock Hotel and Casino were some of the sponsors of the homes. “This is my first build and I’m looking forward to not screwing anything up,” said Susan Renneisen of the Seminole Hardrock Hotel and Casino.
After working throughout the day, the ladies grabbed a bite from Publix and relaxed under their pink tent.
