Habitat for Humanity of Broward Appoints New Board Members

FORT LAUDERDALE (September 12, 2024) – Habitat for Humanity of Broward has appointed three new board members – Brett Atkinson, Ray Berry, and Lisa Rhodes Ryans.

“We are thrilled to welcome Brett, Ray, and Lisa to the board,” said Nancy Robin, Habitat Broward CEO & Executive Director. “Their diverse expertise will further strengthen our already exceptional board, as Habitat Broward intensifies its efforts to tackle the affordable workforce housing crisis in Broward.”

Atkinson is the President of the South Florida Business unit at Moss Construction, where he has played a pivotal role in its exponential growth over the past decade. As a member of the Executive Team, Brett helps shape the company’s overall strategy across its four geographic regions—South Florida, Mid-Florida, Dallas, and Hawaii—as well as its national markets in solar and wood frame construction. Known for his optimistic outlook and positive leadership style, Brett excels at fostering team culture by placing individuals in roles where they can maximize their strengths. A Florida native with a construction degree from the University of Florida, Brett is deeply involved in the community, serving on the ABC Cares Foundation Board, the University of Florida Construction School Executive Committee, and as a member of Broward Workshop.

Berry is a seasoned healthcare executive with over 30 years of success in the hospital and healthcare industry. As the Founder and CEO of Health Business Solutions (HBS), Berry leads a denial management and transitional outsourcing company that empowers organizations to build financial strength through performance-based revenue cycle management. HBS marks his third successful startup. Before founding HBS, he served as Florida’s regional administrator of behavioral healthcare for the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services and remains active serving on various boards in the behavioral healthcare sector. A graduate of the University of Central Florida and a resident of Davie, Berry has served on the North Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners since 2018 and was Chairman of the Board of Broward Health in 2020, during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Berry and other board members worked tirelessly to implement systems to help manage the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He is also deeply engaged in the nonprofit community, including being a founding member of Florida Girls Giving Back and a Board Member of Jack and Jill Children’s Center.

Ryans, Vice President of Communications at AutoNation, Inc., is a dynamic and results-oriented strategic communications leader with extensive experience in driving integrated campaigns and executive communications strategies. At AutoNation, she has led a high-performing team, enhanced brand reputation, and contributed to record operating results. Her expertise spans media relations, crisis communications, and community engagement. Lisa has developed comprehensive executive communications strategies, improved employee engagement, and expanded corporate social responsibility initiatives. She holds a Master of Science in Accounting from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Saint Thomas University. With a strong financial background and a commitment to diversity and inclusion, she is recognized as a top leader in her field. She has been featured in Who’s Who in America (2019 – 2020), the Equal Opportunity Magazine 50th Anniversary Edition, and Diversity Woman’s “The Power 100” list (2022).
